Adidas has named the official football for the London 2012 Olympic Games The Albert, to tap into the UK’s traditional fondness for rhyming slang. The name was suggested by Robert Ashcroft in a public poll and competition run by Adidas – Albert Hall is cockney rhyming slang for ball.

Rapier has poached Engine’s client managing director Lauren Ince to head up its account handling department. Ince joins from Engine where she leads the Santander and Bupa accounts, managing a team across Engine agencies including WCRS & Co and Partners Andrews Aldridge, reporting into Matt Edwards and Debbie Klein.

Thomson Reuters has axed five more senior executives from its Markets division, a move that is now believed to have instigated the departure of the division’s chief executive Devin Wenig yesterday.

Kupferberg joins the firm from UBS AG , where he was a senior equity research analyst covering computer services and IT consulting companies, while Lipacis was a managing director and senior semiconductor analyst at Morgan Stanley . Reynolds moves to Jefferies from JP Morgan, where he was a senior vice president in equity research and Lea joins the firm from UBS, where he was a portfolio manager investing in the Asia technology sector in its fundamental investment group.


The advisory and asset management firm appointed Gary Howe as a managing director and head of financial institutions group (FIG) advisory, North America. Howe was previously co-head of FIG Americas at UBS AG .


The boutique investment bank said it hired Gregg Polle as a managing director. Polle has previously worked at Citi and its predecessors, Salomon Brothers and Salomon Smith Barney, between 1983 and 2008.


The international asset manager appointed June Wong to the position of regional vice chairman, CEO Hong Kong, and global consultant relations. Wong joins Threadneedle from AllianceBernstein in Hong Kong, where she was head of institutions, Asia ex-Japan.


The wealth management firm appointed Jeremy Rance, the group’s chief operating officer, as an executive director.


Fidelity Investments said it named Scott Couto president of its unit that distributes funds through financial advisers.


Fred Fiddle was appointed to lead the bank’s Strategic Equity and Convertible Origination business in the Americas. Before joining BNP Paribas, Fiddle was with Merrill Lynch & Co for 23 years, where he was Head of Equity Linked Origination for the Americas.
