Rebekah Brooks, the former chief executive of publisher News International, has dismissed suggestions that she knew anything about the alleged phone hacking at the now-defunct Sunday red-top, the News of the World.

Starbucks is parting company with UK and Ireland managing director Darcy Wilson-Rymer, who will leave the business in September after four years.
Wilson-Rymer is to be replaced by current US excutive Kris Engskov, who will become managing director for UK & Ireland and senior vice president.

Subway is set to appoint Burger King’s Manaaz Akhtar as its UK marketing director.
Akhtar, who will take up the role at the end of the month, joins after two years as senior marketing manager at Burger King. She replaces Roy Clouter, who has been Subway’s interim marketing director since September. Clouter was brought in after Alex Cacouris, marketing director for four years, decided to leave to train for ordination at the Church of England.

Burger King has appointed former McDonald’s marketer Jo Blundell as its new marketing director, replacing Sarah Power.
Blundell will take up the role on 3 May. She will report to Andrew Trounce, Burger King’s managing director for UK and Ireland.

Miguel Bemfica, the chief creative officer at JWT Madrid, is to join McCann Erickson in the new role of global creative director on its Nestlé account.

Absolute Radio has promoted head of agency sales Remy Kirk to the position of advertising director, ahead of the impending departure of Paul Carolan to outdoor media owner JCDecaux.

Cosmopolitan owner The National Magazine Company has been without a permanent publisher for its monthly glossy since the departure of Justine Southall in December.

LAZARD LTD

The financial advisory and asset management firm said it has hired Peter Kuo as head of Asian equity capital markets advisory. Kuo was formerly a managing director of Cowen Group’s wholly owned Asian unit.

RUSSELL INVESTMENTS

The U.S. fund manager appointed Shelton Unger as director of plan sponsor sales for Russell Indexes. Unger joins from Vanguard where she helped build a variety of successful business teams serving different aspects of the institutional retirement market.

BARCLAYS WEALTH

The wealth management unit of Barclays Plc appointed Stuart Counsell to the UK & Ireland Private Bank advisory committee.

PICTET ASSET MANAGEMENT

The institutional asset management business of the Swiss private bank Pictet & Cie appointed Fawzy Salarbux as senior consultant relations manager. Salarbux joins from Mercer, the global consultancy, where he was a senior associate.

COMMERZBANK CORPORATES & MARKETS

The corporate and investment banking segment of Commerzbank AG said it appointed Benjamin Melzer as head of financial institution sales Germany/Austria/Switzerland.

MERRILL LYNCH WEALTH MANAGEMENT

The unit of Bank of America Corp said it appointed Stefano Ferraro as market manager for Italy. He joins from Crédit Agricole Corporate & Investment Bank, where he was the head of Institutional Client Relationships.

ROTHSCHILD

The financial advisory firm appointed Alistair Dick as head of debt advisory and restructuring in Australia and New Zealand. Dick has been part of Rothschild’s European debt advisory and restructuring team.

PRUDENTIAL CORPORATION ASIA

A unit of UK-based Prudential Inc said its fund management arm appointed Dean Winterton as head of institutional business. Winterton joins from AMP Capital and will be based in Singapore.
