Cheryl Cole has been given 24 hours to decide if she will accept a lifeline to return to the US X Factor. The sensational offer could salvage her career in the States – but pals claimed she was set to snub Simon Cowell again.

Editor of The New York Times, Bill Keller, has stepped down and is to be replaced by Jill Abramson, who will become the first woman to edit the paper in its 160-year-history.

Abramson is a former investigative reporter and Washington bureau chief, and will take over from Keller who is stepping down to become a full-time writer for the paper.

VCCP’s creative director Steve Vranakis is leaving the agency to join Google Creative Lab as a creative director for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Vranakis had worked at VCCP for eight years, overseeing award-winning campaigns for O2, Coca-Cola and Comparethemarket.com.


The bank today named Peter Thomson a director and investment counselor. Thomson joins from J.P. Morgan Private Bank where he spent seven years as a vice-president and senior investment specialist.


The investment bank appointed` former Colgate-Palmolive Co vice-chairman Steve Patrick as a senior adviser to the business. He will work closely with Rothschild’s M&A and financing advisory teams, with a focus on supporting clients in the consumer and retail sector.


Cube Capital named Rui Tang as an investment analyst for the firm’s flagship Global Multi-Strategy (CGMS) Fund. Previously, Rui was at Fintan Partners LLC, where she spent over four years sourcing, evaluating and monitoring hedge fund and private equity investments.


The investment banking division of Barclays Bank Plc said it has appointed Cynthia Whelan as chief executive of its Australian and New Zealand operations.


The bank appointed Daniel Jacobowitz as co-head of investment banking coverage & advisory, Russia and CIS. He joined Deutsche Bank’s Financial Institutions Group in 2002.


The asset management company appointed Rajeev De Mello as head of Asian fixed income. He joins from Western Asset Management (WAM) where he was country head of Singapore.


The bank appointed Andrew Baum as managing director, head of pharmaceuticals and healthcare research for Europe, effective September. Baum joins from Morgan Stanley , where he was head of pharmaceutical research.
