David Beckham to front Samsung’s Olympic sponsorship.
Samsung has signed David Beckham as the face of its sponsorship of next year’s London Olympic Games.
The Korean electronics giant is the official worldwide partner for wireless communications equipment.
The former England football captain will now appear in various ads and PR campaigns in the run-up to the Games.

Glam Media, the women’s publishing network, has appointed Warner Brother’s media strategist Malcolm Attwells as its new commercial director.
Attwells will drive revenue opportunities, build new commercial partnerships and manage new product launches using audience insight, branding, video and mobile for Glam Media UK.

Simon Thompson, one of Apple’s top European marketers, has left the technology company after less than two years.
It is not clear if Thompson, Apple EMEA online store director, has another job to go to.

His tenure at Apple covered the launch of the iPad and iPad 2, as well as the release of the iPhone 4. The company’s range was boosted further this week when it unveiled its latest iMac desktop PC.

Absolute Radio has appointed Channel 4’s senior commercial executive James Wigley to the new role of head of digital sales from 24 May.
In his new role Wigley will be tasked with proving engagement and improving accountability and effectiveness for commercial partners using the Absolute Radio online and mobile network.

The company’s prime broking unit has hired Ashley Jarvis from UBS AG as global co-head of consulting.

BANK OF AMERICA MERRILL LYNCH

The U.S. bank has hired former Goldman Sachs Group Inc executive Ryan Holsheimer as head of equity execution services in Asia-Pacific.

J.P. MORGAN ASSET MANAGEMENT

The asset management arm of JPMorgan Chase & Co appointed Joe Valente as head of research and strategy, real estate Europe for its global real assets business.

BARCLAYS WEALTH

The wealth management and financial advisory unit of Barclays appointed Christian Kwek as managing director to its ultra high-net worth team. Kwek previously spent eight years at BNP Paribas, most recently as head of its equity derivatives group in London.

ARTEMIS

The independent specialist fund manager hired Simon Edelsten and Alex Illingworth. Edelsten and Illingworth will begin building a global stock-picking franchise for both institutional and retail clients.

HARMONIC CAPITAL PARTNERS

The specialist hedge fund manager appointed Romael Karam as partner and Samir Sheldenkar as investment partner.

CRÉDIT AGRICOLE CHEUVREUX

The European equity broker appointed Luca Solca as global head of European Research.

NORTHLAND CAPITAL PARTNERS

The investment bank appointed Louis Castro as head of capital markets. He joins from Matrix Corporate Capital, where he headed the corporate finance team since 2008.

MF GLOBAL

The broker of commodities and listed derivatives said Shay Caherly, Christopher Wright, Charles Daly, Christopher Chiarilli and Edward Boxshall have joined its commodities group.

It also said Evan Malik and Phil Hermann have joined as co-heads of the mortgage- and asset-backed securities sales team.

Joseph Gahtan will manage equity derivatives sales, while Peter Wells has joined as head of equity trading for the firm’s Asia Pacific region.

SANDLER O’NEILL + PARTNERS LP

The investment banking firm appointed Gregory Heher as a principal. Thomas Cullum has joined the firm’s fixed-income group as a managing director with a focus on corporate bonds. Both are based in New York.

AVIVA

The UK-based insurer appointed of Cathryn Riley as its chief information officer, effective immediately. She will continue to be based at Aviva’s headquarters in London.
