“Harry Potter”  movie star Emma Watson has given up her schoolbooks and gone back to practising witchcraft.

Watson, who portrays the boy wizard’s sidekick Hermione Granger in the wildly popular movies, posted a message to fans on her website on Monday saying that she is taking some time out of Brown University to finish off the “Potter” films.

The final chapter, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2” will be released worldwide this upcoming July.

The number of staff appointments grew in February, according to a survey by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (Rec).

It reported the fastest rise in permanent staff placements in ten months.

The group’s report also showed the sharpest increase in temporary positions since May 2007.

In its latest report, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said unemployment in the UK had increased by 44,000 to almost 2.5m in the three months to the end of December.

There had been 40,000 more job vacancies than in the previous three months.

However, the ONS said that most of these new vacancies were temporary jobs, working on the 2011 Census. Excluding this, there were just 8,000 more vacancies.

Provider of interim managers Interim Partners has appointed Jo Sands as head of food and drink.

Sands previously spent more than four years at Odgers Berndtson where she built a successful interim consumer practice specialising in FMCG, consumer durables and food and drink.

Mobile marketing solutions provider Upstream has appointed Robyn Collins as global director of human resources and administration.

Collins will be responsible for attracting talent to Upstream, while also developing the existing team. She will also support HR policy, systems and tools across all of the firm’s international offices in London, Athens, Rome, Dubai, Bucharest, Singapore and Rio de Janeiro.

Local business search company thomsonlocal.com has appointed Liz Jervis to HR & training director.

Reporting directly to chief executive Elio Schiavo, Jervis joins from zinc mining, recycling and refining producer ZincOx Resources, and will be responsible for talent management, learning and development for the firm’s 750 employees based across the UK.

Royal Bank of Scotland is to dismiss a further 3,500 employees, bringing its total redundancies to 26,600 since the its near-collapse in 2008.

Shareholders are dismayed Xstrata failed to consult them over the appointment of the former Vodafone and HSBC boss despite months of tension over the future of the position.

 A third of all board appointments over the next four years would have to be women to meet Lord Davies’ target to have females make up a quarter of UK FTSE 100 boards. The former trade minister said that one-in-three of all UK board appointments must be female to achieve the voluntary target set for 2015. That equates to 135 females being hired. The proposal came amid a raft of recommendations to the Government to increase the number of females on boards – women hold just 12.5pc of positions currently.
