James Murdoch quits UK for NY-based News Corp role James Murdoch, currently boss of News Corp's European and Asian operations, is leaving the UK to take on the role of deputy chief operating officer and chairman and chief executive of international operations, based in New York. News Corp-owned IGN Entertainment has hired former Target Media group trading director Adam Hopkinson as UK commercial director as it bids to double the size of its sales operation. Interpublic's media division Mediabrands has restructured its global operations into three "clusters" and handed more regional responsibility to Jim Hytner, EMEA president of UM. Gaddafi's authority suffered a major blow last night as his foreign minister, Musa Koussa, resigned his post and flew to Britain. A Libyan government official was quick to deny the story, saying that he is on a diplomatic mission, but the UK Foreign Office confirmed that he had resigned and was being debriefed in Britain. TRADING in the shares of Bank of Ireland and Allied Irish Banks, the top two Irish lenders, will be suspended today pending the results of the banking ‘stress tests’. MARKETS: THE FTSE 100 made its sixth successive daily gain yesterday as investors moved their money into miners and industrials and away from troubled retailers. The index has gained 6% from its year low of 15 March. Private banker DBS has hired Lawrence Lua from Julius Baer as head of its Southeast Asia business. Lua, who will also be a managing director, will join in April, DBS said in a statement. Southeast Asia accounts for about half of DBS's private bank business. The Australian government on Tuesday appointed a top executive at an energy company and a well-known economist to the policy board of the Reserve Bank of Australia(RBA), aiming for a greater focus on the country's booming mining sector. Treasurer Wayne Swan said Catherine Tanna and John Edwards would serve five-year terms as non-executive members of the RBA's nine-member board. Morgan Stanley has named Wei Christianson, the bank's top China banker and William Strong as co-chief executives for Asia Pacific. The appointments make Christianson the top female banker in the region in terms of title, and brings over Strong from the U.S., who heads its Midwestern operation there. Barclays Wealth, the private banking arm of Barclays PLC , on Monday announced 12 director-level appointments in Singapore and Hong Kong. The nine new hires in Singapore include Benjamin Yeo as head of research, economics and strategy for Asia and Eddie Tan as director for Singapore/Malaysia. Yeo was formerly with Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp's Bank of Singapore, while Tan came from JPMorgan Private Bank . Portugal moved closer to an EU bailout, as its largest banks were downgraded by S&P. The ECB revealed it was forced to buy government bonds worth 432m euros in an attempt to keep Potuguese yields down after the defeat of its austerity budget last week. Debt has reached record heights of 8.3%. Irish banks seem to be edging close to another rescue after reports that the ECB could agree a 35bn euro funding lifeline. The results of stress tests on Ireland's financial system are expected to reveal an imminent need for a 25bn capital injection on Thursday. New prime minister, Enda Kenny has been negotiating to secure international funding. Irish debt reached 10.7%. David Cameron and Nicolas Sarkozy issued a joint statement yesterday calling for Qaddafi supporters to move their support to the Interim National Transitional Council, which has been recognised by Qatar as the legitimate representative body for Libya.
